Bengal AI Collective
People & governance

Who holds the table — and how.

A collective lives or dies by its independence and its people. We are a neutral, non-partisan body, governed in the open, convened by a founding group and guided by an advisory council drawn from all three sectors. The team and council are being assembled now, and named here as they join.

How we're governed

Independence is the whole point.

These are not values on a wall. They are the rules that let academia, industry and government trust the same room — and the reason our counsel is worth anything.

Neutral and non-partisanOwned by no company, no campus and no party. Our only shareholder is the people of West Bengal — and that independence is the source of the trust the table depends on.
Philanthropically fundedFunded by philanthropy and partner contributions, with no commercial stake in the outcomes we advise on. Funding sources are disclosed; influence over the agenda is not for sale.
Decisions in the openPriorities are set in working groups that span all three sectors, on the record, with someone accountable for the follow-through. No back-room agenda, no single voice that overrides the room.
Accountable to outcomesWe hold ourselves to what changes on the ground — people skilled, projects shipped, policy improved, talent kept — and report against it. If we cannot point to it, it does not count.
The advisory council

Being assembled across three sectors.

The council guides priorities and keeps us honest. We are seating it deliberately — these are the kinds of voices we are bringing to the table, named as they commit.
